The SDWLA conference is the only available professional development opportunity in the state specific to language teaching. Historically, the association offers sessions from nationally known speakers and language specific organizations, split sessions provided by faculty from several universities in the state and other experienced teachers, meetings of the language-specific associations, and lots of opportunities for networking with other language professionals.
The South Dakota World Language Association exists:
  • to promote the study of world languages at all levels of public and private education within the state of South Dakota
  • to advocate for the study of world languages, cultures and literature
  • to maintain contacts with state and national agencies that have decision-making roles regarding world languages
  • to sustain an active program of professional development for teachers of world languages
